Whole lotta labia.
|[||how ya feelin'?
Having driven myself slightly nuts with waiting for the official order I went ahead and just bought some off the swap/sale boards.
They say: Orchid, white musk, and bergamot wafting over juniper berries, with a gentle touch of soft, earthy patchouli.
I say: Me and the orchid do not agree. Or maybe that's the patchouli. It had a bite in the bottle and it's got a bite on me. Sadly, this is not going to be a winner for me. It mellows out quite a bit but it still sits there right on top of the skin making my nose water. It's like baby powder and patchouli slapping me around. Smells almost exactly like Nantucket Briar from C&E. My mother loves that, it gives me a headache.
Queen of Sheba
They say: A woman of exquisite, unearthly beauty, profound intelligence, wit, and exceeding wealth, the Queen of Sheba - called Bilquis by the Muslims and Makeda by the ancient Abyssinians - traveled by caravan to Solomon's realm seeking proof of the king's reputed wisdom. Bearing gifts of exotic spices, a veritable mountain of gold, hearty camels and precious stones, she presented herself to the king and, bearing her heart to him, asked him a series of challenging questions, and was ultimately convinced of the truth of his wisdom, knowledge and judiciousness. In the end, the great king and queen conquered each other's hearts and fell breathlessly in love: the perfect marriage of equals. Her scent is a bounty of golden honeyed almonds and a whisper of African and Middle Eastern spices.
I say: Like sweet almonds, with just a hint of dryness. Lovely. Wet on me: Like almonds and incense. Dry on me: Still with the almonds and honey. Not so much with the middle eastern spices. Sweet, but not really me. The honey comes out after about two hours and I'll probably use up the imp but won't buy any more. I might try this as a room scent. Almonds are apparently not a good dominant scent on me.
They say: Bust out the dzang dzi! This scent honors the zombies of Chinese lore. Mandarin orange, white musk, mango, and white sandalwood.
I say: Wet : a little too much fruit. Wet on me: Wow. Fruit. And.. Some kind of tang to it. A real bite. The bite fades and leaves me with this nice sweet light floral. I'm not usually a floral gal, but man this is nice. The musk mellows out the orange and the sandalwood just sits under it all being slightly powdery. There's still something of a bite to it though, won't order, but might use up the imp unless someone wants it.
They say: Malevolent, dark and shadowy: sinuous black musk, wet leather and vetiver.
I say: In the bottle? This reeks. It's this heavy choking thing. On me wet it's even worse. It's like some kind of horrible baby powder with claws. After about an hour of drying it settles into something… tolerable. Before I reread the description I kept thinking this was some kind of sweet floral. Then I went back to the spreadsheet. That must be the vetiver. I don't get any leather out of this at all. But maybe some of the musk. Into the swap pile, as Lin would say.
They say: Dry black teas, Earl Gray, and leather.
I say: Wet: It's mostly the teas, with a nice whif of bergamot from the Earl Grey hiding in there. No sign of the leather yet. Wet on me: This smells like fabric softener. And like fake citrus. Almost like dishwasher soap. After it dries: This smells like a really clean well-groomed man. Just a little whif of leather underneath it. I am in absolute love. Big bottle? Yes please.
There are two more from the bunch to try: Queen and Vixen and I think both will be a little too strong for me. But if all I get out of this is my Severin love, it's still be worth the cost. I wandered around for most of last night with my wrist about shoved up my nose this smelled so good. I smelled like a slightly naughty librarian. All aftershave and old books and.. something. Heaven.
So, into the swap pile with the others. I've got about three other sale orders coming in this week as well as the official order which I expect in about three weeks. So I'm having fun. Eventually I'll put up a big post so I can track these and a wishlist on the forums but for now, it's just fun.
