Today's lessons learned [Jun. 15th, 2008|09:06 pm]
Whole lotta labia.
While contemplating my first tattoo, I've been out on the intertubes looking at samples and this is what I've learned:

People put some really stupid, very ugly, poorly-executed, and ill-advised ink into their skin.

I mean... REALLY.

So. Tell me. Best and worst tattoos you've ever seen. Go!

I'm actually plowing through episodes of Miami Ink at a terrifying rate so I know the good one you mention. I haven't hit the other one yet but given how that stuff creeps me lately anyway I'll probably skip over it. I'm not good with bad things happening to babies these days.

Seriously, I'm starting to think that every tattoo shop should hire one average mom to work there. And her job would be to look at people and go "Oh, honey. No. Just.. no." And if you can look at the mom and make a convincing argument then you can get your bad tattoo but I bet she'd save us from about half of the bad crap out there. My darling friend R's maggot-eaten heart, just as an example.

That last one is going to be amazing!

I'm going for just plain text, I'm trying to find the right font. Of course, given what a chicken I am I could very well be font shopping for a decade. :)

How's Ms. R doing, anyway?

Check out this tat on the "Epic Failure" demotivational poster:

I'd have to say the most disconcerting tat is worn by a mutual friend of ours.

Yes. I'm aware of that one. I think Steve actually offered to pay to have the coverup finished just to get rid of that... artistic statement.

You might want to check out http://inkygypsy.livejournal.com/profile

You can see some of her work here: http://chesapink.com/portfolio.html

I want to get a phoenix on my other hip and I want her to do it..just a matter of time.

i have yet to see a 'photorealistic' tat that doesn't look like a ghoul.

one of my friends has some of tenniel's alice in wonderland art, which is cool (i like the slithy toves best).

i know sort of what i want for my first (and probably only!) tat, but i'm going to to have to draw it myself and i suck at art.
