Whole lotta labia.
[how ya feelin'? |why is "cocked" not a mood?]

A few things:

  • starfishchick.. did you know that they're making a Lemony Snicket movie?

  • I don't meant to speak ill of anyone but... man.. there is some bad fic floating out there. I'm not sure which is worse, just plain seriously bad fic, or the fic that's pretty good until it comes to a screeching halt with some unfortunate malaprop or violent spelling error.

  • Mr. Darcy and Colonel Brandon should totally fight over me.

  • Icon making... seriously addictive.

  • wilfulcait and I drove to the airport and back to drop off my boss and all the fucking crap equipment. She and I could have fun in a locked prison cell or, alternately, a hostel in Dublin that just FEELS like a prison cell.

omg....love the icon...

and yes...there is a lot o' badfic floating...just today i came across one that started with promise, then tossed in two MAJOR rps canon errors, and then a sex/cum scene that was vaguely remniscent of a bad porno.

and the sad part is that the writer has talent....just needs a decent beta.

I've wanted to make that icon for days now.. I just finally got the software last night. I'm getting a little stupid about it but I'm having fun.

I saw your note about the bad cumshot and I was half tempted to go find it.. What kills me about the fic is the jarring difference in quality from one fic to the next.. just for one writer. And it's not just people crying out when they reach "organism".. though that's happened. It's just.. don't lure me in with something not half bad and then crush me under the foot of your inability to spellcheck.

well, this fic had billy at boarding school when both his parents were "killed"--at the same time, then he was sent to live with a distant relative. The he grew up, and went to NZ, and met viggo and orli at the same time (as in after he got to NZ, but the same day he met the other hobbits).

at least no one tried to hit his "prostrate"...but that could make reaching the organism easier.

but for a good effort by a newbie check this out. I rec'd it in my lj a couple of days ago, because, even with the odd dialogue, there is something good there. i suggested to the writer that they re-work the dialogue and post it to monaboyd.

"well, this fic had billy at boarding school but the same day he met the other hobbits)."

*blink* You just made my brain hurt.

"at least no one tried to hit his "prostrate"...but that could make reaching the organism easier."

True. And afterwards they could trundle out of their rumbled bed. (Which always makes me picture the bed in some kind of street gang fight... like the bed has a switchblade and it's singing "When you're a Jet....")

except for "prostrate" i can almost overlook word misuse (of course, there was the one with orli, in a bar, nursing a logger...).

"canon" errors, though, can really hack me. i mean, i'm not looking for someone to follow th shooting schedule exactly, but, dammit, don't have dom talking with billy's mother (unless there is a old gypsy woman or a ouija board involved), or dom remember when his parents split up or have viggo there for all the pre-shoot training and bonding.

unless, of course, the fic is supposed to be AU or the changes integral to the story, then notes explaining this would be nice so that, when i do come across them, i go "okay, story point" and not "omg...BETA!!!"

is that too picky for someone who doesn't write a lot?

of, course, now i sound nitpickey.

nursing a logger...

cant... stop... mental... image...

I don't think it makes you sound nitpickey at all. It's something that tears you out of the story. Plus, as someone who's desperately trying to get canon right, I can vouch for how hard it is to go poking around and making sure you've done your research. But it's done out of respect. It's like spellcheck and grammar and running it through a beta. It's a sign of respect for your readers. Not checking your canon means you don't think they're smart enough to catch it... or you just don't care. Either way, it's almost rude.

Sorry.. all the Jack research has made me a bit ... testy about this. Also, watching starfishchick get reamed by some teenybopper who didn't think she should have to spellcheck her headers. Huh??

Argh, that girl was annoying.

And OMG Lemony Snicket movies with ... Jude Law! (If you like that sort of thing.) And Jim Carrey as Count Olaf and Meryl Streep as Aunt Josephine!

I've only read the first four - I read a bunch back to back and overloaded on them - they got a little annoying and repetitive.

Start at the beginning:
1. The Bad Beginning
2. The Reptile Room
3. The Wide Window
4. The Miserable Mill
5. The Austere Academy
6. The Ersatz Elevator
7. The Vile Village
8. The Hostile Hospital
9. The Carnivorous Carnival
10. The Slippery Slope

The audio books are read by Tim Curry! Squeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
