We're going to do this just like we did yesterday. Review now, picspam later.
Melissa-squared got in line at like 4 (insane girl) and I was behind her at like.. quarter to 5. We shot the shit and talked about stuff and figured out that she used to play with the band I love at my medieval stuff and we went to the same college. She's like "I need to see some ID. I need to make sure you're not actually me." The only good part about sitting out in the cold that long is that at some point the bodhran player of your favorite band will go past you.. walking his dog. So cute.
There were some line hijinks, some scary fans (who drives all the way from Florida to a show they don't have tickets for? the hell? plus, she made them all presents. *fear*) and the most unbelievably shady and morally corrupt excuse I've ever seen used to line-jump. Dood, if you use the excuse that you're there to sign for deaf fans, do me a favor, of the FIVE people you bring with you to also jump to first in line make sure at least one of them is deaf. And then, throughout the concert, you might want to ACTUALLY SIGN SOMETHING! omg. So pissed.
Anyway.. so.. yeah, front row center again. And a good thing too because that place was sold out to the doors and people were getting stupid. The woman behind me seemed to think that her outrageous bosoms could be used as a battering ram.. lady, I'm up against the barrier, I can't go any farther before I'm under the stage. Back off. Cait finally hauled off and said something to her. I know you don't like conflict, Cait, but I nearly kissed you for that last night.
The Push Stars played another fantastic set. Instead of embarrassing their drummer with a birthday song they let Chris play "Keg on my Coffin" which I loved for having the line "drink up life like a river, 'til the pizza man delivers." And Hugh, the guitarist, wore his spiffy shoes again.
I stood so close to Alan that I could hear his shoes hit the floor while he bounced. They played exactly the same setlist as Tuesday night with the exception of a nice solo-Alan version of Boston and St John's to start the first encore and finishing with Rant and Roar. The two notable departures from the setlist were the completely adorable trade-off of musical tunes n the first encore and what we got instead of General Taylor.
Alan went to introduce some song and Sean leaned in and sang the first few words of "Consider Yourself" from Oliver. He went on to do most of the first verse of it, select lines from "Wouldn't It Be Loverly" and Alan "Not To Be Outdone" Doyle countered with a nice rendition of the opening chords and verse of Phantom of the Opera.
Oh, and what we got instead of General Taylor? Sean's gorgeous acapella rendition of Danny Boy. Which made me cry.
Sean futzed with the words to "I'm A Rover" to make one line go "raised her arms up around her bosom" instead of "around her breast" and Melissa-squared leaned into me and said "Mmm.. bosoms." I laughed, I laughed a lot.
I made off with one of Sean's picks and Alan's setlist and spent the time after the concert hugging on people I love. make_your_move was there and I loved seeing her face all shining.. wilfulcait came and brought her daughter who had a better time than most of the front row combined, I think. At some point before the show she looked over at Murray's control pedals and saw the setlist and said "Look! It's a list of the songs they're going to sing!" and wilfulcait leaned over saying "K has just discovered the existence of setlists.." it's moments like that that she's bursting proud to be a mom and I'm pretty tickled to be a gay uncle.
I got accosted by exes and their wives and old roomates and new friends and before I knew it I was standing there just talking to Melissa-squared and Hugh and we'd convinced Hugh to come out for a pint. We went to my favorite pub in DC (Melissa-squared used to go there every Monday night for their open sessions.. are you even surprised anymore?) and had a couple of Guinness while Hugh and Melissa-squared serenaded me with The Fields of Athenrey, The Long Black Veil, and Lily of the West.. *happy* The owner kicked us out at 1:30 and after sending Melissa-squared and Hugh on their way to Annapolis to meet up with the rest of The Push Stars I headed out myself and eventually got home about 2:40..
Matt grabbed me as I crawled into bed and hauled me into a snuggle. Nice. He even let me go on about the concert for a bit before crashing out at around 3. The alarm went off at 6 and my brain went "No. Bitch you are going back to sleep. Fuck off." So Matt and I did the car shuffle and I slept until 8.
I have pictures and stuff, I'll put them up in a minute, but let me tell you the best thing about the last two days. I come into work and there's an interoffice envelope on my chair from my boss. Turns out that just based on the fact that managed to hang around for a year, I got a raise. Not much. But still! It covers the cost of my parking and.. yeah.. a raise. :)
So.. that's that.. the state of affairs this morning is that I'm incredibly sore, hideously tired, my throat is killing me, and both wilfulcait and I have been losing the thread of a conversation right in the middle. Sentences said to my face now sound like this.. "And I told him, you need to get that blah blah blah blah blah blah." I'm all.. huh? Good times.. good times..
