I'm going to come right out and admit that after a perfectly on-program day on Friday, I ate like a hideous pig on Saturday. Well.. maybe not a hideous pig, as I was wearing my lovely blue dress. But a pig to be sure. Bake sale, thou art the devil. (On the other hand, brownies, thou art sooooo good. Especially for someone who isn't a big chocolate fan.) Still, I kept up and moving for as much of the day as I could, and I didn't sit around and eat my weight in smores. Also, I scrumped Matt, which has to be good for some calorie burning.

Yesterday I was golden. An hour of cardio at the gym to make up for none on Saturday, a half hour of decent upper body weights, and while I was still feeling very virtuous I hit the grocery store and got healthy bread, veggies, fruit, and the Giant near me has Lean Cuisines for half off.. Whee! Oh, and the anal-retentive little print-out card I keep in my wallet with the good choices at various fast food joints came in handy as lunch was the jr. cheeseburger deluxe at Wendy's. 8pts.

This morning was another 25min. on the elliptical and some lower body weights. I think tomorrow I'll hit the treadmill so as to break up my cardio stuff. Also, I've got to call and make that PT appointment. Don't let me forget. Tonight is Dollar Draft night and I'm planning to have enough left over for a big pint of stout.


As part of my shopping on Sunday I bought a salmon steak. I don't want to have to freeze it so I'm going to cook it on Wednesday, whether Matt's home or not. Anyone have any good salmon recipes?

Cait, you and I should do a big cooking day again. I may (fingers crossed) MAY have this Saturday free, but I think that's probably pushing it.. next Saturday is dinner at Matt's dad's but maybe next Sunday? Or.. are you going to the lake for 4th of July? I might let Matt do some pierogies again since those were fantastic. We'll think of something.

Also, OMG, my slightlytricky is back! *clings*

Weekend update coming, I promise. It was lovely. Just lovely.

I wished we lived close enough to exercise together. You talk about the gym and I'm like "omg I really want to go!" I should look into the local YMCA, maybe. Someplace cheep.

Oh man, me too. I used to have a workout partner and it made weight lifting so much more fun.. just having someone to mock the gym bunnies with. :(

I just checked out your local Y (because I have this gene that makes me go all MUST RESEARCH!! NOW NOW!!) At least, I think it's your local Y. Anyway.. family memberships are like $70 a month with a $110 enrollment fee. There's a decent option, a "special hours" membership that might work better for you given your schedule.. you can only use the facility between 9am and 5pm and that one's $40 a month and they may be able to prorate your enrollment fee.

On the other hand, your local parks and rec department has some great classes for between $35 and $60 for a couple of months. And they've got a sports complex that has a $7 day (or $45/month) rate. Also, check with your local community college to see if you can get access to their fitness facility. I've been known to run/walk at the local high school track after hours too.. especially during the summer.

I'll .. umm.. stop being all pushy now.

Well, watching the commitment you're making to yourself is encouraging to me.. so I try to give back. :) I'm glad it doesn't come off as pushy.. I worry sometimes.

Our usual salmon dinner meal is prepared thusly:

-get butter (a tablespoon?) and tab on fish
-grate or chop fresh ginger, put on fish
-get orange juice (from an orange or just from the carton), pour over fish
-bake for 10-12 minutes (we do it with fillets, and it always takes longer)
-eat

My salmon recipe:

Oven to 450.

Lay out some aluminum foil, spread olive oil onto the surface of the foil. Shake the spices you want onto the oil. My favs for salmon are rosemary, basil, a touch of cayenne, lots of thyme. You can also use oregano, lemon pepper, or anything you like. I tried it with cinnamon once, and it was... interesting. Not bad, just interesting. Anyway. Place the salmon, if a filet, skin side up into the foil and wrap it up.

Bake for 8-10 minutes per half inch thick.

Yupyup. I also like to make a cream sauce using thyme and basil to draw it together. It goes well over pasta and steamed veggies.

Sid's Cream Sauce for One

Sautee a half clove of garlic in a couple tablespoons of olive oil. If the garlic is popping, it's too hot. Put in a tablespoon of butter and as it melts, add a pinch of the spices you want to bring to the sauce. Stir until the butter is completely melted. Remove from the heat and add two tablespoons of flour or cornstarch and stir until smooth. Pour in a cup of milk and return to reduced heat, add about a slice and a half of cheese. I'm a fan of provolone and parmeasan for this sauce, but it can be made with just about any cheese. Allow cheese to melt and mix until smooth. If the sauce is too thick, add a little milk. If it's too thin add either more cheese or mix some oil and flour together then add to the pan. Yum!

Ok.. see.. now I'm totally going to have to cut the fillet in half so I can do your recipe AND starfishchick's.. this sounds fantastic and as Matt's a fan of the "less stuff done to fish the better" I like the idea of just spices and olive oil as much as I like the idea of ginger and orange. Happiness.

Theoretically I think a big cooking day sounds splendid.

In actuality my schedule over the next month is just nuts. Not so much busy as confused. I need to talk to CM about what we're doing with K, my weekends are getting messed around, I'm just... pfeh.

So yes, maybe, need my calendar in hand to make plan one.

Figure out your K schedule and let me know.. July is mostly open what with only the Jamaica trip and Novice and those are on the same weekend. So if next month works better I think that'll give me time to figure out what recipes I want to do and stockpile some ingredients.
